Volt, 38mpg???
So… i read in this fairly new article about the volt that it would give about 38mpg in charge sustain mode (fuel engine on).. that sounds shitty actually in my world…
my new toyota yaris (don’t have it yet) does more than 45mpg.. and that’s not even a hybrid

And your Yaris is also:
1) smaller (subcompact vs. Volt’s compact hatchback)
2) never able to go anywhere without using gas. The major point of the Volt is to allow gas-free driving for most normal commutes.

You’re absolutely right, but the yaris is available now, and i won’t be able to get a volt until earliest in 2 years in europe.
but what i meant with the post about 38mpg.. is that shouldn’t they be able to put a better engine that would give even better mileage when in extended mode?
especially seeing as the engine itself does not even recharge the batteries, it just keeps them in sustained mode, a properly optimized engine with 1 single task should be able to get better performance than a “regular” car imho.
